Meet Andy Garrison

Judge Garrison currently serves as a Jackson County Associate Magistrate.

Andy has over 40 years of law enforcement experience/service, with 28 of those years as Director/Manager of the State of Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Athens.  Judge Garrison is also a Professor at Athens Technical College and teaches courses in Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Ethics.  As a consultant, Judge Garrison has taught both Judges and Court Clerks for the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education (ICJE) at UGA.

Judge Garrison has a stellar career in the criminal justice field and would use his knowledge and experience to benefit the people of Jackson County, Georgia.  Judge Garrison is married to the former Hilda Johnson of Jefferson.  Together they have four children and 4 grandchildren.  “I was born and raised in Jackson County and my entire career has been dedicated to serving. It would be my great honor to serve the people of Jackson County as your Chief Magistrate Judge

Why I’m Running

I began My Career in Jackson County serving the as A Deputy Sheriff. My entire career has been dedicated to the LAW. I have been preparing for over 40 years to bring my education and service experience back to the people of Jackson County.

Key Issues & Solutions

The Magistrate Court is also called the People’s Court.

As a growing county we need to be anchored to the people while servicing them with knowledge of the law and future trends within the State.

As a Professor of Law, I bring the a unique insight into this Judgeship. As a community leader I have seen the present and future needs facing our citizens. As your next Chief Magistrate I will use both these strengths to provide the people of Jackson County with continued quality service while preparing for our future.

His rich academic background spans sociology to public administration, and witness his global influence as a law consultant. Beyond the professional accolades, Andy’s heart beats for the community. Whether it’s teaching law, preserving local history, or serving in religious and civic roles, his impact is profound. As a Jackson County Magistrates Associate Judge, his dedication to justice exemplifies his enduring commitment to the community.

Career Highlights

With an impressive tenure of over 40 years in public safety service, Andy Garrison is a man of vast knowledge and dedication. Holding degrees in sociology, criminal justice, and a master’s in public administration, he has carved a niche as a respected consultant in the realm of law, not just nationally but also on the global stage. As a College Professor, Andy has shared his expertise in criminal law, constitutional procedures, and ethics. Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, his commitment to the community shines through. He serves as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and holds leadership roles as the Squadron Commander of Post 56 Sons of the American Legion. His passion for local history is evident as the Chairman of the Board of the Historical Tumbling Waters Society, where he ardently works towards preserving Jackson County’s history at Hurricane Shoals Park. In addition, Andy has been recognized as the Rotary Assistant Governor and presently dons the robe of a Jackson County Magistrates Associate Judge.

Past Achievements

Andy Garrison, esteemed as the Public Safety Academy Director with the most extended tenure in Georgia’s history, was notably acknowledged with a proclamation by the late U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson. This distinction was further highlighted when presented by Tommy Benton from the Georgia House of Representatives, who has since retired. Throughout his illustrious career, Andy has been instrumental in the training of countless public safety officials across northern Georgia as he seeks the position of Chief Magistrate in Jackson County, GA.
